MediaTek dropped its new chipset in MediaTek Dimensity 1000 in December and now it came into the limelight as Oneplus is planning to launch its new smartphone, the Oneplus 8 Lite A.K.A. the Oneplus Z which is powered by this chipset. This Processor is being compared with the Snapdragon 865. It’s the first flagship and only 5G capable processor from the house of MediaTek. It has 4 Arm Cortex-A55 cores clocked @2.6GHz and 4 Arm Cortex-A77 cores clocked at 2Ghz.
It is based on the 7nm process and built on 64bit architecture. GPU provided is Arm as Mali-G77 MC9. RAM supported is LPDDR4X with speed up to 1866MHz.
CPU Type(s): Arm Cortex-A55, Arm Cortex -A77
Max CPU Frequency: 2.6 GHz
CPU Bit: 64 bits
GPU Type: Arm Mali-G77 MC9
Max Display Resolution: 2520 x 1080
Video Encoding: H.264, H.265 / HEVC
Video Playback: H.264, H.265 / HEVC, VP-9, AV1
Maximum Camera ISP: 32+16 MP, 80 MP
Max video capture resolution: 3840 x 2160
Max memory size: 16GB
Now it’s enough of the technical specifications. Other than these, it packs improved camera features such as AI autofocus, AI facial recognition, HDR, and many more. Now on the video department, it is the world’s first chipset which is capable of multi-frame video HDR capability.
This record 4K video by capturing every three frames at different exposures to cover an extended dynamic range, then fusing them into a single video in real-time. It packs 6 cores for Artificial Intelligence and also brings the world’s first dual 5G technology.
It also comes with dual-band GNSS for better positioning and other features such as WIFI 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
AnTuTu Benchmark Score
Now the main question arises. How does it compare to Snapdragon 865? Well, talking of the benchmarks it outperforms Snapdragon 765 with quite a good margin. The MTK Dimensity 1000 score around 5,11,363 in the
AnTuTu benchmark score while the Snapdragon 765 lags behind with 3,02,847 score. Thus, making it a competitor to Snapdragon’s flagship i.e. the Snapdragon 865. So, the snapdragon 865 scores around 541899 in AnTuTu Benchmark. Which is higher obviously than the MTK Dimensity 1000.
GeekBench Multicore scores
Now talking about the GeekBench Multicore scores. The MTK 1000 scores 12,096 while the SD 865 scores 13,344. So, The Snapdragon 865 scores better than the MTK Dimensity 1000. So, ultimately which is better? Better scores mean better performance, so the Snapdragon performs better than the MediaTek.
But here is the catch, The MediaTek Dimensity costs much less than the Snapdragon 865. So, there is a huge possibility to bring flagship performance in affordable smartphones. So, we can conclude that the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 will be a great choice for budget smartphones like the Oneplus Z to provide a flagship performance experience in the budget category.
MTK Dimensity 100 vs SD 855
You may have a question that why didn’t we compared the MediaTek Dimensity 100 with other processors like the Snapdragon 855 or 855plus? Well, the Snapdragon 855 and the 855+ are previous generation processors than the MediaTek Dimensity 1000. Hence no point in comparison.
In case you want to know their AnTuTu scores, then it’s around 3,71,273 for the Snapdragon 855 and 4,97,179 for the Snapdragon 855plus. So, we can see its quite less than the MediaTek Dimensity 1000.Some of the phones currently using MediaTek Dimensity 1000 are Oppo Reno 3, and the upcoming Oneplus Z.
Now MediaTek is going to launch a cheaper detuned version of MediaTek Dimensity 1000 Soc called the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L. This will be a competitor to the Snapdragon 765 and the Snapdragon 765G.
