Concerned about Corona Virus and Lack of Sanitizers in the market? Yeah! Obviously. Who isn’t?

Coronavirus is spreading at an alarming rate across the globe and becomes a pandemic as it has its presence in more than 180 countries. The USA and European countries are highly affected and have the maximum number of cases.

Let me guess. Tried getting hand sanitizer from the market but didn’t found one? Not even from Amazon or other e-commerce sites? Okay, I can understand. No issues, let me help.

You may have already read from the internet that you can prepare it yourself. Not a big deal. The Internet is now flooding with this type of DIY. But wait, do you know that mixing those stuff in the wrong proportion can worsen its effect. Yeah!! You heard it right.

Hand Sanitizers can be prepared easily at home but not mixing the ingredients in a specified manner can do more harm than good. It can affect your skin and can damage eyes if comes in contact. So, it should be prepared in a perfect manner. Alcohol is the main content of the sanitizer and its quantity in it can have different effects on your hand.

For example, with too much alcohol in the sanitizer, your hands may start feeling dry. And on the other hand, less alcohol will not protect you from the virus. WHO(World Health Organization) said that hand sanitizers containing more than 60% alcohol by volume will be effective to kill the coronavirus. Most of the sanitizers in the market come with more than 60% alcohol and only these should be used but here we will guide you to make sanitizers at home with the same quality as market ones.

So, what’s the correct procedure to make a perfect Sanitizer?

Mix 2/3 parts of 99% pure isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol) with 1/3 parts of aloe vera gel (Yeah! You can use the one you got from Patanjali) and a few drops of any essential oil of your choice. And remember, use the cleanest utensils possible while making the sanitizer (Funnel, mixing bowl, mixing rod, etc.). If possible, try to sterilize them with hot water before using them.

Hey!! What if you don’t find Rubbing alcohol too? Yeah, as always there is away. You can use grain alcohol from any local liquor shop (It’s a type of alcohol that is free from any flavor, malt, etc.), but one condition, it has to be 151proof (Means it contains 75% alcohol by volume).

And it’s a myth that you can use pour vodka or any other liquor on your hand to sanitize it. It just doesn’t contain enough alcohol to kill the viruses. (Liquor contains about 40% alcohol by volume). This percentage of alcohol will do no good.

Sanitizing your hand may not be enough to stop this virus so sanitize your devices, doors and all those things which you normally touch. Wear mask whenever you go out or talk to someone as it help you to protect from the droplets that may contains virus. Also try not to come in contact with many people as its symptoms are not visible for the first 14 days.

Don;t forgot to wash your hand every 2-5 hour and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth as much as you can so that you can stay safe even if virus comes in contact with your hands.

AND THE LAST THING!! Sanitizers don’t kill all types of viruses. Hence, whenever possible try to use soap and water to clean your hands for at least 20 seconds. No sanitizer is better than soap and water.
