Laser for Under Water Internet
Underwater Wi-Fi is exactly what researchers at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, have developed. The system, which they call Aqua-Fi, uses a combination of lasers and off-the-shelf components to create a bi-directional wireless connection for underwater devices.
The system is fully compliant with IEEE 802.11 wireless standards, meaning it can easily connect to and function as part of the broader Internet.
Here’s how it works: Say you have a device underwater that needs to transmit data (for the KAUST researchers, it was waterproofed smartphones). They then used a regular old Wi-Fi signal to connect that device to an underwater “modem.” Specifically, they used a Raspberry Pi to function as that modem.
The Raspberry Pi converted the wireless signal to an optical signal (in this case, a laser) that was beamed to a receiver attached to a surface buoy. From there, established communications techniques were used to send the signal to an orbiting satellite. For the underwater device to receive data, the process is simply reversed.
Samsung Odyssey G9 Gaming Monitor
Samsung launched its Odyssey G7 gaming monitor earlier this month. Now, less than a month later the company has globally launched its next-generation Odyssey G9 gaming monitor. The Samsung Odyssey G9 gaming monitor was showcased alongside the Odyssey G7 monitor at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 back in January this year.
Samsung Odyssey G9 offers a 49-inch curved QLED display with a resolution of 5,120 x 1,440 and an aspect ratio of 32:9. It’s a G series gaming monitor with series name MON G95T. This monitor provides high-quality gaming experience with a fully curved display and its size is massive for a gaming laptop.
Some highlights of this system: 1000R, the new apex of curved screen technology, matches the contours of the human eye for unimaginable realism, QLED brings brighter and more realistic shades and hues for vivid game visuals, 240hz Rapid Curve eliminates lag for exhilarating gameplay with ultra-smooth action.
At 49-inch, and arced to match the curvature of the human eye, the G9 marries unmatched immersion, with unbelievable performance, pixel-perfect image quality, and incredible visual design.

Facebook’s new Choreography AI
Facebook which owns both WhatsApp and Instagram have developed an Artificial Intelligence System that can dance and perform new moves completely new and different. This AI can learn moves from any culture and create its own as well. This is not the first time such an attempt was made but previously also many attempts to create such AI have been done.
It is capable of interpreting his company’s dance style and generating more movements based on using thousands of hours of video it was trained on. Facebook’s AI is much more stylistically flexible.
“In this work, we focus on designing interesting choreographies by combining the best of what humans are naturally good at – heuristics of ‘good’ dance that an audience might find appealing – and what machines are good at – optimizing well-defined objective functions,” the team wrote in a study published Tuesday.
